The Ritual, Up There by Stella Artois

Романтична и любопитна инициатива на белгийската пивоварна Stella Artois по идея на Mother London. В тринайсет минути “Up There” режисьорът Малкълм Мърей (Malcolm Murray) разказва историята на група художници на външни реклами и за тяхното постоянство, саможертва и отдаденост на занаята. Много е важно да уточним, че става въпрос за размери от типа на 10 на 20 метра на калканите на сгради, където изкуството на класическата рисувана реклама оцелява благодарение на малцина ентусиасти-романтици, които модерната печатна технология и материали като мешовите винили скоро ще дозатрият окончателно. Проектът е част от The Ritual Project на бирената компания.

Shot high above the streets of New York City, Up There reveals the dying craft of large scale hand painted advertising and the untold story of the painters struggling to keep it alive. Capturing a trade that is equal parts artistic precision and grueling labor, the film presents a painting tradition pre-dating modern advertising. A craft that today finds itself dangling precariously on the brink of extinction. Up There is directed by Malcolm Murray, based on an original concept by Mother. It is produced by Mekanism with music by The Album Leaf. The film was made as part of The Ritual Project sponsored by Stella Artois. You can get more information here.

Instal is a world-leading experimental music and sound art festival held annually in Glasgow. An identity and set of materials were developed for the 2009 festival including a poster, two booklets (a programme and set of essays), flyers, and advertising for web and print.

Arika, the promoters, are super passionate about the artists and performances they program, but are keen to challenge the sometimes impenetrable air associated with them, and engage new audiences. Consequently, the approach to the festival’s identity embraced full disclosure of information about the weekend’s performances, treated with honesty, clarity, and humour. The poster (right) collected together the most interesting facts which were then expanded on in the programme booklets (below). These included average decibel level, distance travelled, complexity of instrumentation, and ‘kicks vs. contemplation’. install
