QusQus is a graphic design studio founded by Dima Kuzmichev. We love magazines and books, presentation booklets and annual reports, typography and high-quality paper. We develop trademarks design and visual identity. The studio works for a wide range of clients from various areas, regardless of their scale. Our works achieve success also due to our clients, who share our approach to design and who appreciate individuality and quality even in details.

My name is Dima Kuzmichev. Everything began while I was studying at the institute, at the information design department. Even at the first courses I worked as freelance designer and was engaged in identity and graphic design projects. I became one of the creators of two magazines (ShowOff and ThreeSixty), also I worked there as a designer and art-director. After graduation I started to work with Zambezy ID agency, where I was engaged in identity developing and creating of various printed production. Later, looking for bigger clients, I joined to VolgaVolga agency, where I worked with such clients as Megafon, Web Plus, City Tour, Ingosstrakh, BFA Bank, Baltimore, Baltic Pearl, Land Aspect, Pen&Paper, Pioner Cinema, North-West Telecom, Smart Telecom etc. So with some accumulated experience I decided to open my own studio. And now I have more time and possibilities for making high-quality projects.

IL – Intelligence in Lifestyle

Intelligence in Lifestyle е ново италианско списание, предназначено за мъже и блъскано с инфографики и дизайн от арт директора Франческо Франки (Francesco Franchi) и криейтив директора Лука Питони (Luca Pitoni), като е под шапката на вестника Il Sole 24 ORE по подобие на NY Times Magazine. ‘IL—Intelligence in lifestyle’ is a new high-end monthly magazine, geared toward men — but it is also read by women. It is sold together with the newspaper ‘Il Sole 24 ORE’, the leading financial and economic daily newspaper in Italy. IL is dedicated to contemporary passions and consumptions, and which uses current events as a key to interpret changes in lifestyles. IL is a magazine that suggests original points of view, unexpected directions and unconventional solutions — that offers more value to the readers’ passions. It provides news, interviews, reportages about the latest trends of lifestyle all around the world. The idea is trying to talk about “soft” news as if it was “hard” news — in a serious, journalistic way which wants to be at the same time also informative and elegant. Because of that, the magazine design is the result of the influence of news magazines and fashion, style and glam magazines. One of its strong features is the use of the grid, the typography and the headline design, taking inspiration from the Swiss formalism, and the bold and witty design of the 70s Italian and North European popular magazines. The infographic is an important element as well, because it summarizes the concept of the magazine: giving information, while taking care with the aesthetic and visual look.

Digital Nostalgia, Paul Butt

Пол Бът (Paul Butt) е принт и уеб дизайнер, запален по визуализацията на данни. Дипломния му графичен проект Digital Nostalgia е най-силната му работа засега и е отпечатана в италианското, и английското издания на списание Wired. Поредицата постери визуализира личната и глобална хронология на техническия, и комуникационен прогрес в последните двайсет години. Можете да следите работата на Section Design и във Flickr. Друг негов проект за Wired предвижда Бразилия и Сърбия да играят на финала на Световното този месец.

I am part of a generation that as grown up in parallel to some incredible technologies that have dramatically changed the way we live, but I have also got to the age where I’ve found myself becoming nostalgic about how things used to be. This inspired me to base my university major project on the progress of technology and some of the social events that have been influenced by it during my lifetime.

This developed into a series of 6 A2 posters each showing a different aspect of the technologies that we rely on today with the final poster linking them together, by showing how they are geographically related. Each poster also had a smaller A3 fold-out version for which I also produced packaging to show how it could work as a final product.

Centro Cultural Vila Flor, CCVF

За португалците Atelier Martino & Jaña пиша вече трети път (първи, втори). Отново силна типография, фотография и свежи минималистични детайли в дизайна им за Centro Cultural Vila Flor, Гимараеш. Студиото се състои от петима постоянни члена (Joao Martino, Alejandra Jana, Alvaro Martino, Filipe Cerqueira и Oscar Maia) и многобройни колаборатори.

In 2000, the Atelier Martino&Jaña was born as a project of two people João Martino and Alejandra Jaña. Today is the product of a pluralistic and eclectic team that shares motivations and ideals.

Из разните дизайн блогове, които следя скоро представиха новите корици на английското ежемесечно списание за гарфичен дизайн grafik. С право обаче в коментарите имаше силна носталгия към старите, дело на студио MadeThought (вътрешни страници от спасанието можете да разгледате в архива на сайта).

VOLTA

Дизайнерите отговорни за това италианско издание за алтернативните източници на енергия са черпили вдъхновение най-вече от списание IL (което излиза веднъж месечно към вестника  Il sole 24 ore), както и от американското GOOD Magazine, и английското Monocle Magazine, както сами споделят в описанието на проекта. Все списания, които залагат все повече и повече и то в правилна посока на инфографиките и приятния илюстративен информационен дизайн, като спомагателно средство за по-лесното усвояване на информация от читателя. Българският Капитал също работи в тази посока, но със символичните хонорари скоро трудно ще привлекат хора, които са способни да направят качествени инфографики, от началното проучване, до качественото креативно изпълнение. Проявлението на това течение и в България е обнадеждаващо и прави чест на изданието, чието цялостно графично оформление също трябва да отнесе заслуженото, въпреки че напомня отчасти това на The Times.

Изданието е задание на Миланския Политехнически университет, престижен агрегат за Инженерни науки, Архитектура и Индустриален дизайн. Тримата дизайнери, Франческо Муци, Джакомо Гамбинйери и Матео Галандрис са погледнали въпроса от историческа гледна точка, показвайки как сега алтернативната енергия е била единствената позната на хората преди и според тях настоящето е само точка в дългата енергийна еволюция.

This is a project we did last year for Politecnico di Milano. We had to design a magazine about alternative energy sources. Our main concept was to put everything in an historical perspective, showing how some of the energy sources we now consider as “alternative” were once the most common, showing how the future could get and finally showing the present as just a point in a long evolutionary process. The parts about the past have a yellowish background and make use of b/w images, drop caps and a rigid grid. The parts about the present have a white background and use mostly photos and some little infographics with a more complex and versatile grid. The parts about the future have no fixed background colour and are completely based on infographics.
