Forest Paintings by Tzu-Chi-Yeh

Tzu-Chi Yeh (born 1957 in Thailand) is a renowned painter whose works have been presented in various solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad. Particularly noteworthy are his infamous forest paintings which resonate a powerful beauty that is fascinating when you consider how the viewer would likely experience a very different sensation if he/she were to find themself in the same location that inspired the works. There is a deeply magnetic feeling coming from these paintings and from the very first glance you can’t help but be pulled into them — it’s almost as if your mind is telling you “Let’s get inside of there.” In reality, we so often find ourselves in natural locations very much like these, but fall prey to the relative subjectiveness of not being able to see the forest for all the trees. In these works, however, you get the best of both worlds.

‘Breakfast Interrupted’ by Bruton Stroube

One of our most recent shoots, titled Breakfast Interrupted, is now live for your viewing pleasure. Shot primarily with the Phantom HD Gold at 1000fps, the piece is designed to showcase food in a beautiful and unusual way.

Making of Breakfast Interrupted

FIELD x SEA x GF Smith

Over the course of the last 15 years digital technology has been quietly revolutionising the print industry. Yet the limited potential of early digital equipment to handle a variety of quality papers hasn’t always lived up to a paper specifiers expectations. Recent advances have seen new digital presses handle a huge variety of textures, colours, recycled papers and non-paper-based substrates.

GF Smith approached us to create a Digital paper promotion to showcase their expansive portfolio of digital papers, as well as, the technological potential of the latest digital presses.

‘Noble Studio’ for ‘Fred Perry’

‘Map Works’ by Matt Cusick

‘Welcome to Pyongyang’ by Charlie Crane

How do you photograph one of the most secretive countries in the world? For Charlie Crane the answer was simple, photograph what they want you to see. If there is no possibility of getting underneath the surface then the answer was to photograph the surface itself. This series is taken from a larger body of work in Pyongyang, the capital city of North Korea. Although not commonly thought of as a holiday destination all these photographs have been taken at tourist sites throughout the city. It took over a year for Charlie to get permission to go in with his camera: he was not allowed to take his mobile phone past customs and was met by two guides who were to accompany him at all times throughout his trip. At first they appeared robotic in conversation as if reading from a script, telling of their countrys great achievements. After a few days and many polaroids the guides became more relaxed and personable. Working with such tight restrictions in a country once described as a Stalinist Disneyland was a real challenge but the result is the strongest body of work that Charlie has produced to date.

Garmonique Photography

If the word ‘melancholy’ does not appear in this post, I am not doing my job. Sure the photographs of Garmonique are a little on the gloomy side, but that doesn’t stop them from being absolutely gorgeous. The color and composition of each is tremendous.

‘Disassembly’ by Todd McLellan

Sometimes the most beautiful way to view an object is not by the sum of it’s parts, or so believes Canadian artst, Tod McLellan.  His latest body of word entitled, “Disassembly,” is a series of photographs of various technological objects which he has painstakingly unbuilt then arranged in an aesthetically pleasing order.  I don’t think McLellan is trying to better our understanding of how devices work or even improve our appreciation of the meticulous nature of everyday machines, it seem to be more a celebration of entropy, reveling in the fact that everything falls apart.
